In general, there are mosquitoes in Sri Lanka due to weather conditions, but malaria has almost been eradicated from the country. Mosquitoes inland can be a nuisance, but we are lucky, because we are directly on the coast and mosquitoes avoid the salty air and therefore do not disturb very much.

In the nearby cities of Galle and Matara there are 2 international hospitals – both approximately 30 minutes by car. For minor problems, there is a good clinic with an English-speaking doctor in the nearby Weligama, which we can take you to as needed. On request, we also arrange for the local doctor to visit the hotel.

No specific compulsory vaccination is required for direct entry into Sri Lanka. To avoid traveling to Sri Lanka without the proper protection, the standardized vaccinations should be carried out or checked for validity before the trip begins. These include vaccines against tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, polio and measles. A recommendation is also made against hepatitis A. In addition, if there is more contact with local people, protection against hepatitis B is also recommended.

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate and is therefore hot all year round. The air temperature during the day ranges from 28°C to 36°C and 22°C to 26°C during the night. In May to October, the monsoon season is rainier, but with sunshine. The winds are mainly ashore during this time. The high tourist season in our region is December, January and February – the driest period with the most stable winds.

The months before and after the monsoon, March / April and October / November, have been the best times in recent years to surf with larger waves. Waves that in some places were on average head high or higher. The water temperature is quite constant at 27° to 29° C, so you can surf in swimwear all season round. Water quality is normally good, except in the case of storms, when the river water is washed into the ocean and can become cloudy near the estuary. This has no impact on the breaks near Colours of Life Home.
